Introduction
The Digital Human Research Center launched the "Digital Human Technology Consortium" comprising 8 universities, 2 institutes and 13 companies (5 automotive, 1 housing and 7 software). The consortium has been collaborating to develop "Science-Based Genuine Digital Manikins". The aim of this project is to generate possible human motions for getting into a car, and to assess the load and comfort during the motions.

In order to develop science-based genuine digital human manikins assuming a rigid link model, information on the mechanical properties of the human body is indispensable. Human body properties include body dimensions (anthropometric data), body segment parameters such as mass, center of gravity, and moment of inertia, as well as passive joint properties. When the human body is described using a more detailed musculo-skeletal model, the structural information of musculo-skeletal system, visco-elasticity of muscles, and material properties of bones and soft tissues are also required.

Numerous studies have been published on human body properties. We surveyed the literature on body dimensions, passive joint properties and body segment parameters, and have compiled the information on this web site.

Finding these papers should be easy for researchers of physical anthropology and biomechanics; however, it may be more difficult for researchers of robotics and computer graphics. We hope that you find what you are looking for on our web site.
