Human and Social Functioning Research Team
Despite of familiarity of everyday life, there is little understanding of the properties and dynamics of everyday life, and engineering for designing everyday life support has not yet been established. The objective of this research team is to develop everyday life engineering --- systematic technologies and social system that allows us to design everyday life by organizing human functions and artificial functions.
Difficulty of engineering for everyday life lies in the lack of science of everyday life, namely, there is no methodology for describing everyday life quantitatively and dealing with it as reusable and accumulable knowledge. This study develops a scientific method such as a method for understanding structure of everyday life functions from the viewpoint of body functions, activities and participation. This study also develops a method that allows us to design everyday life (everyday life support system and service) based on a computational model of everyday life and intelligent robotic components (sensor technology, information processing technology, internet technology, and actuation technology). What kind of support is appropriate for both individuals and society will be discussed. Besides the above, this study develops a method for designing a social system for developing, evaluating, improving everyday life support systems and services.
